Forum FAQ - Identifying Forum messages

A good way of managing the messages from a mailing list is to filter them into another mailbox. Most mail programs will allow you to set simple message rules to filter messages into a separate folder based on words contained in the To or Cc fields. Sometimes, though, these fields might not contain the address of the Forum, depending on the settings of other members' mail programs, over which you have no control. However, Majordomo can do some things to help identify Forum messages more reliably.

Every message distributed to the list has a few special headers included. These are not normally displayed by your mail program, but they can be used as search criteria for filtering. One suitable header, which appears in every message, is:

List-ID: <forum.greenbelt-forum.org.uk>

You can also opt to have a special tag added to the subject line of list messages. To do this, send:

set forum prefix
as the body of an email to majordomo@greenbelt-forum.org.uk. The text [GB Forum] will then be added to every subject line you receive from the list. Send:
set forum noprefix
to Majordomo to turn it off again.
